8 Films Featuring Land Rovers

8 Films Featuring Land Rovers

Who doesn’t love to sit back, relax and have a good old-fashioned movie night?  Land Rovers seem to be one of the most popular vehicles when it comes to on-screen action and adventure...

One of the most favoured cinematic Land Rover models looks to be the Defender and who could argue? It’s the perfect car to handle those tougher driving conditions that are usually displayed in the most well-known action-adventure movies.

1. Skyfall (2012)

First up, we have a classic. I’m sure many of you are familiar with the James Bond franchise and Skyfall is just one of the many movies in which a Land Rover Defender has been featured. However, the exact model used in this specific Bond film is a Defender Double Cab, 110 Wheelbase version and Daniel Craig, who we know as the latest James Bond, actually rides as a passenger in this vehicle. Berkshire Land Rover specially adjusted several of these models for its appearance in the movie - one of the Defenders used in filming was actually put on display at Harrods department store in London, as part of promoting the film.

 2. Tomb Raider (2001)

Sticking with the theme of action and adventure, the Defender also made an appearance in the 2018 Tomb Raider movie. The Land Rover Defender TD5 110 was customised to be driven by heroine Lara Croft, played by Angelina Jolie. The vehicle was fitted with extras such as a diamond plate trimming and an underwater snorkel for a major off-road adventure. From thick jungle to ruined temples, the Defender TD5 110 features heavily as Lara Croft battles the odds against her. As expected, the Land Rover Defender shows us just how capable it is off the beaten track.

3. The Fate of the Furious (2017)

Of course, the Land Rover had to be featured in The Fast and the Furious franchise: the specific model seen in this movie was a Land Rover Defender 110. Being a film that hugely highlights vehicle performance and drive, we aren’t surprised that the Defender was featured. The tougher driving conditions and variety of terrains beautifully demonstrates the Land Rover Defender’s robustness and handling. The Defender is iconic. It’s all about being suited to the ultimate off-road adventure, in which this is definitely showcased in The Fate of the Furious film.

4. Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (2019)

Being a spin off from The Fast and The Furious, the Hobbs and Shaw sequel follows the same theme of extreme action and adventure through fast paced driving. Various Land Rover models have appeared multiple times in the Fast and Furious franchise, with the model featured in Hobbs and Shaw a Range Rover Series 3. The role the Range Rover played highlights the capability and resilience of this car, which I’m sure many of you are fully aware of. Range Rover models consistently provide the highest standard of luxury and comfort, paired with exceptional performance.

5. Cars 2 (2011)

If you know of any budding Land Rover enthusiasts, this could be the perfect film for them. Cars 2 is the second film in the Disney Pixar Cars trilogy and features the adventures of various animated vehicles. Even film producers of movies tailored to a younger audience have chosen the Land Rover brand – recognised at all ages as a manufacturer of reliable and highly capable cars.  The Land Rover Range Rover in Cars 2 is called Mike Lorengine – his character is a bodyguard to the Queen! Mike’s characteristics of being a robust, loyal and strong car is demonstrated throughout the film.

6. Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle (2017)

In this thrilling remake of the classic Jumanji movie, the characters are thrown into a world of action and adventure. The first vehicle the protagonists come by in a virtual jungle environment just happens to be a Land Rover Defender 110. The capabilities of this vehicle are well showcased as the characters endeavour on their adventure, going over and through different terrains, including deep vegetation and a rolling desert. The simple change of location shows that the Defender can handle different driving conditions with ease – it’s the perfect car for action and adventure.

7. Mission Impossible Fallout (2015)

It is no shock to us that the Land Rover Defender was also involved in helping Ethan Hunt (an IMF agent) save the world. A 1990 Land Rover Defender 300tdi played a starring role in assisting Tom Cruise in saving the day. However, this is not the only time the Defender has been featured in this franchise - it also has a supporting role in Mission Impossible Fallout, this time being a Land Rover Defender 110. We can also speculate that this model is a 200tdi, as it is home to a snorkel on its right side.

8. No Time to Die (2020)

Last but not least, the upcoming latest James Bond movie, No Time to Die, is not only set to feature the newest Land Rover Defender 110, but also a top-of-the-line Range Rover Sport SVR. Each Defender 110 is said to be kitted out with a Black Pack – they’re in Santorini Black and have Satin Dark Grey alloy wheels. In the trailer, they can be seen tailing Bond in an action-packed pursuit. As soon to be showcased and tested in No Time to Die, the Defender sets new standards for toughness and extreme capability.
